The model project - The first reconstruction of dioramic painting and installation was made by Catherine in 1994. The installation was quite an authentic approach in terms of painting technique and storybook, but not in terms of lighting and scale. Catherine therefore decided to launch DIORAMANEA as a more accurate model. Alongside with a correct scale vision of DIORAMANEA a new artificial light source had to be found to replace daylight. Daylight reaches the surface of the earth as almost parallel beams and was the condition sine qua non for correct lighting in the original Diorama. However, daylight is not reliable enough for exhibition purposes, and artificial light sources had to be placed as close to the painting as possible. No convenience products fitted the project. Therefore DIORAMANEA had to be adapted to the lighting problem. The project needed a lot of planning and testing, two prototypes (1/2) and a great amount of time for painting. Today's team gets a notion of what an amazing effort it must have been to build and run the original Diorama. |
