Influence on home entertainment - As soon as theĀ success of the Diorama was obvious, the Paris paintings were copied in small formats for commercial or private use as transparent hand coloured lithographs or dissolving views. The visual concept of the scene remains almost the same: A farmhouse or a village, mountains in the background, a lake or a river, the remains of the avalanche. The Diorama 'Landslide in the valley of Goldau' for instance was copied and released as Spooner's Protean View No. 4 'Destruction of a Swiss Village by Avalanche' (1) or as G.W.'s 'A Village destroyed by an Avalanche' (2). Handmade dissolving slides show a much simpler, but similar scene at three different times of the day (3/4/5). A more elaborate example shows a village with mountains in the background at three different periods of the year (6/7/8). |
